Possibly the most British song ever written: "Rule Britannia!".
Composed by Thomas Arne in 1740 this tune was originally part of a "masque", a baroque courtly festivity somewhere between an opera and a costume-ball, about Alfred the Great, but soon developed an independent life of its own.

Soprano: Renée Fleming
BBC Singers
BBC Symphony Chorus
BBC Symphony Orchestra
Conductor: Jiří Bělohlávek

  • why was she waving an American flag was she trying to signify subtly that she thought American still belonged to Britain rightfully? or that Americans by heritage were English ?

  • @zyzor No, she is waving this little flag because the concert took place on September 11th.

  • @jackydefo I will calm down as soon as you stop making uneducated and ignorant comments on youtube

  • @danthepan123 k calm down mate lol

  • "The Proms"were started by Sir Hennry Wood as a cheap form of entertainment for young people of lower means (i.e, poor). More could attend if there was a section with no seats, and they could move about, or "promenade." Miss Fleming waived a US flag because she's an American.

  • @jackydefo I don't even know how to respond to this comment. Its just such a false generalisation of an entire country that you don't even KNOW about. Just wow.

  • Would someone please tell me what The Proms is?

  • @Zeobit I saw even more flags the german, russian and south african flags were in there as well why is that?

  • @danthepan123 they burn our flag lol

  • @Zeobit Britain and the US share a special relationship. Americans living in the UK and Britons living in the US love to show pride on their homeland and can safely do so; and LNOP is about flag-waving fun!! I agree with Zeobit. If you look around the UK on 11 Sept each year, you will see many US flags shown in support. Great relationship these two countries have.
