Tzotzil-Maya weavers in Tsobol Antzetik (Women United), a cooperative in highland Chiapas, Mexico held a competition on March 5, 2009 in Chixiltón, Chenalhó. Prof. Christine Eber of NMSUs Sociology and Anthropology Dept. attended the competition along with Bill Jungels, Emeritus Professor of media studies at SUNY Fredonia who shot this video. In the video the women and their daughters are hanging up woven blouses that they entered in the competition. To encourage younger weavers in their work, every blouse received a prize, from 1st to 17th place. Prize money came from donations solicited by Las Cruces Chiapas Connection, a volunteer organization of which Prof. Eber is a founding member.
