Redline Coffee (www.redlinecoffee.com) presents a qualifying lap at Daytona International Speedway from the Riley Racing Mazda RX-8. This lap by Jameson Riley put the car in 5th for the start of the race.
@laughsatposers I wouldn't say that breaking two circuit records at the time was barely winning, The 787b won by 2 laps and did 4932.2 kms. Barely winning would be like Audi vs Peugeot this year where Audi won by 100 meters.
@Stuntman175 yeah, regulations changed for Le Mans, but not because the rotary was dominate as people think, when the rules changed again rotaries were legal again, although not competitive, the 787B barely won in the first place.
"Unfortunately, the Mazda 787B would not participate at another 24 hours of Le Mans as the rotary engine was banned the following season in favor of the 3.5-Liter engine."
@legsport1 Yes, it is, they were banned after Mazda won the 24 Hours of LeMans with the quad rotor, R26B engined Mazda 787b in 1991. I've read somewhere that in the meanwhile they were unbanned again, but I don't know if it's true or not.
@Stuntman175 sounds like you should read up some history.

@Stuntman175 they were never banned, the rules have allowed them, they just wouldn't be competitive as rules changed.
