@dmorris41 sorry i was incorrect about the kamikaze part, i was not thinking clearly. although the united states attacked merchant ships from japan to western europe to neutralized areas. These Merchant ships did not hold any military weaponry of the sort. About 1 third of these ships were departing the Pacific ocean. The Japanese sent warnings that if they did not stop bombing their ships than they would attack. Although flooded with warnings no direct response was made and they were ignored.

The united states crossed no boundaries before pearl harbour... they never attacked any japanese ship without just cause(let alone civilian cargo) and certainly not in japans waters. The attack was completely unprovoked and a shock to all! and last... your not seriously telling me the united states air force had trained kamikazi pilots? The only time this action was performed was when the aircraft was going down and the pilot couldnt eject.

@Itachilumpkins First, the actions take by my goverment were not over extensive. It was completely utilitarian, the sacrifice of some innocent to save even more. If a land invasion ensued on japan the us soldier death toll would be extremely high, along with japanese civilians. Hundreds of thousands more would have died. We also could have just dropped a 50 mega ton on tokyo and killed millions. But your right... over extensive.

@broc212 no disrespect man. but the actions that the american government took to ensure the ending of the war with japan was over extensive. of course they were already beginning to surrender, this you have right. but being mad at what they did during the war is because solely of americas actions. The japanese attacked pearl harbor because the americans were attacking hundreds of japanese transport ships. these people were not in the military of japan. kamikazi attacks were done by all sides.
