Please enjoy Teresa's performance of a Japanese song "心もよう (Kokoro Moyou)" meaning "A frame of mind", originally composed, written, and sung by 井上陽水 (Inoue Yousui).

The following are the Japanese lyrics, with my English translation.

Samishisa no tsurezureni
(By killing time of my sadness,)

Tegami wo shitatamete imasu anatani
(I am writing this letter to you)

Kuroi inku (ink) ga kirei deshou
(Don't you think the black ink is beautiful?)

Aoi binsenn ga kanashii deshou
(You must feel sad with this blue letter-paper)

Anata no waraigao wo
(Surprisingly,)

Fushiginakotoni
(I remembered)

Kyou wa oboete imashita
(your smiling face well, today)

Jyuuku ni natta oiwai ni
(By celebrating my 19-year birthday,)

Tsukutta uta mo wasuretanoni
(I made a song, but forgot it)

Samishisa dakewo tegami ni tsumete
(By filling only sadness in my letter,)

Furusato ni sumu anata ni okuru
(I am sending this letter to you living in your hometown)

Anatanitotte miakita moji ga
(My written characters, you are tired of watching,)

Kisetsu no naka de umorete shimau aa ...
(are buried in changing seasons, ah ...)

Tooku de kurasu koto ga
(Nothing is good for us to live far from each other)

Futari ni yokunai nowa wakatte imashita
(I knew this well)

Kumori garasu (glass) no soto wa ame
(It is raining outside the frosted glass)

Watashi no kimochi wa kakemasen
(I cannot write about my feeling)

Samishisa dakewo tegami ni tsumete
(By filling only sadness in my letter,)

Furusato ni sumu anata ni okuru
(I am sending this letter to you living in your hometown)

Anatanitotte miakita moji ga
(My written characters, you are tired of watching,)

Kisetsu no naka de umorete shimau
(are buried in changing seasons)

Azayaka iro no haru wa kagerou
(Bright color in spring is a filament of air)

Mabushii natsu no hikari wa tsuyoku
(Dazzling light in summer is strong)

Akikaze no ato yuki ga oikake
(After the autumn's wind, snow follows)

Kisetsu wa meguri anata wo kaeru aa ...
(The change of seasons changes you, ah ...)

  • Omg!!!! my heart just melt. What kind of man can resist this voice? Not me. For sure. I blame myself for not knowing her until recently. I've never known her but again, it better late than never. She is not belong to Taiwan, China, Japan nor Asia: She just belong to humankind. Period. RIP tt.

  • I have been listening to this song sung by the great singers like Ishikawa Sayuri san and Sakamoto Fuyumi san. And I love it. This is the first time I listened Teresa Teng san singing this song. Lovely. Just lovely. She conveys more powerful feelings. Domo Arigato Masami43 san for sharing and the great translation. Being a translator myself, I know I how difficult it is to translate lyrics. And you are doing a great job.

  • i want to learn japanese to sing this song !!!!

  • TT certainly has a way of singing Japanese songs different from Japanese singers. If I may say so, notwithstanding she is not a Japanese, it was she more than any other singers as well as the first to make Japanese songs popular outside Japan. This wasnt the case before her time. I think the Japanese record producer/composers at the time were very smart to very early know that she is the ONE.

  • Ooooh really thank you for this info!!!! I heard a fragment of this song by Inoue and searched the whole youtube for hours (even copying the japanese title) and i found a vid. And now in the related i saw yours. Thanx soo much!

  • @1dajiang the composer of this song is Yosui Inoue, a Japanese
