Is the New Testament reliable? What about all the different manuscripts with variants that we get our translations from? Dr. James White addresses the question, "Can we trust the New Testament documents?" in this event sponsored by Trinity Law School.

  • "We pray for the people of Japan, especially [Christians?]" I'm very disappointed in you, Dr. White. You're a good scholar,, but that's just cold.

  • For some reason I have a gut feeling that the entire "Jesus" story was fabricated. The virgin birth of Jesus wasn't even mentioned in the Old Testament. Without the New Testament, Jesus appears to only exist on paper (New Testament). Hopefully I'm wrong, but I can't find any clear and specific mention of a Messiah named "Jesus" in the Old Testament.

  • Interviewer : What do you think the New Testament originally said ?

Bart Ehrman(yes, that's BART EHRMAN) : Pretty much what it says today!

    'Nuff said.

  • @ruelt The worn out MSS theory is a fallacious and unproven idea that simply will not work on the massive scale KJVOs such as yourself insist it did. If it's true then why all of a sudden in the 6th century do only Alexandrian MSS wear out but no longer Byzantine? There are clear errors in the TR admitted by both Burgon & Hills.

  • "3 options for every word" is a strawman: no one says that. Ehrman (for example) is open about the relatively small number important errors in the early manuscripts. But the fundamentalist line is that NO such mistakes can exist because the NT was written by God. However, it's not the numbers, but the kind of errors that they in fact are: obvious human, "theologically significant", changes for which the original reading is unknown; scholars can't just "pass over" them, as White does @24.13

  • Unfortunately, Bro White has made wrong assumptions & errors.

    1. The reason, the oldest manuscripts may not be the best is becasue those read by the faithful christians are more likely to get torn & hence recopied & original discard.

    2. Man without the Holy Spirit cannot judge the Scriptures.

    3. Dr White thinks that the KJV & TR has errors. He is wrong. If I pray using the KJV verses the Holy Spirit never within me never tells me that any part of the word has errors - unlike corrupted versions.

  • Incredible presentation!
