:) Without the cowl that I usually use for a 90deg mirror the lens hole (1 1/8") is exposed perpendicular to the airstream. That probably acts like a whistle and causes the loud screech. In a way I think it makes it a little more fun...

The rocket is scratch built using standard high power rocket parts. The camera payload is custom made. Search for AYUCR on google for more info.

It was a Loki H144. 240Ns so that's equivalent to about 24 Estes C engines.

The sound IS very creepy huh? There is a 1 1/8" hole in the side of the rocket for the lens to peer through and the sound (I think) is the wind blowing across the hole like a whistle. Makes me glad to be staying on the ground!
