Sonate for Tuba and Piano - Zoltan Gardonyi
I. Allegro Moderato

David McLemore, tuba
Brian Hanke, piano

Ramo Recital Hall
Monday, December 1st 2008

Apologies for the less-than-stellar video quality, the audio quality is hopefully fine.

This was the second work on the recital. It's an interesting piece in that it actually predates Hindemith's Tuba Sonata and is, therefore, the first tuba sonata written by a serious composer. Gardonyi himself was a student of Hindemith and Kodaly, but that fact isn't reflected in this piece, which sounds nothing like Hindemith's Tuba Sonata.

  • The horn is a Yamaha 621 F tuba (YFB-621), with a PT-64 mouthpiece
