Bells ARE mandatory at crossings (especially unguarded ones). Other than that, I'm not sure.

Thats not something you see every day, 2x AC6000's being led by a GP40-2
-
i wonder why the gp40 is on point.. i usually see less powerful locos at the rear of the lashup
-
Haha sweet. Best we get out here are B36-7's. Only other good thing I ever saw was a CSX K-train pulled by CN units.

Hey, that is cool!!!! Saw up in gettysburg today, a chop nose GP-9, and an old F-unit from the gettysburg railroad picking up some cars that were set off by one of our own crews.. I was in the middle of sawing a piece of rail we had to replace, and by the time I was done sawing it, he was allready by, I always bring my camera with me every day so I can take photo's. I love how the new SD-70's have the notches in the nose, reminds me of the notches on the old alco's noses!!

If I'm at my friends house all day, we'll hear all GEVO, AC, and SD traffic hauling coal right by his house, or off the bridge. If we go to my other firends house, if we're lucky, we hear a RDMT set hauling trash cars and steel gondolas down the C&O industrial track to Coalton.

Since this is secondary track I work on, they east and west bound locals, plus the stone train usually use SD-50's, SD-40's, GP-40's with a slug, and GP 38's.. Every now and then there will be a new GEVo, or GE-AC's, or even the GE-8's with the standard cab. Most of the time, it is older equiptment.. Nuttin like the sound of the GP-38's, or the old SD-40's!!

Down here, all we get is GEVO, AC's, and SD70 variants hauling coal, mixed Q trains with anything from two AC units and two Geep's to a string of MP15's. All the local moves I've seen from Huntington Yard to Russell have been under Dash 8 power, and the units sounded and looked great. Literally. I can hear them chugging long before the newer units.

Ha Ha, I actually like the sound of the horns on the GE's and the SD-70's.. They are different.. If you ever get a chance to look at the motor of the new GE's, they look alot alike and alco 251 prime mover.. The only thing they need is an air blower start, and it would look and sound like an old alco fireing up!! We had some interesting power on the subdivision today. Our west bound local had the standard cab dash-8's from the early 90's. Paint faded, but motors sounded healthy!!

Haha yeah. I LOVE that sound, but I HATE the GEVO horns, way overblown, as well as the tone of the SD70AC's horns.
Do you know how steep that grade is? Also, why is the locomotive ringing its bell? What is the rule for doing that? Does it depend on speed?

I am uncertain as to the percentage of that grade. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but the bells are not mandatory.
