i think it's because Florence Nightingale had a lamp and lit up wards, and Martha spread light to the world in the year that never was

at the very beginning when the door opens you see a newspaper on the door with the slitheen woman and the title "new mayor, new cardiff".. think it's a bit old lol

And in the radio episode, "Lost Souls" seems to be a running theme Jack has for Martha. I like it.
