As said make sure the filter is in place and there are no leaks in the airbox or boots going to the carbs. Sounds pretty good otherwise. I tried to test fire mine with no airbox at all and it wouldnt even fire. Also, you can very easily bypass that clutch safety so that it will start without having to hold the clutch lever in. I did it to my gs1000.

Wont run properly with air cleaner out. make sure air cleaner and air box are leak free. make sure boots are leak free . replace old o rings between manifold and head. these bikes are very sensitive to air leaks.
