See how much quicker this new Flying Carpet boarding system gets passengers aboard a plane. As this computer comparison shows, instead of everybody getting in each other's way, passengers go straight to their seats, spread comfortably throughout the plane. It's almost twice as quick as the usual Rear-to-Front system used by most airlines.
The Flying Carpet has printed on it a scaled-down seating plane, and is placed just ahead of the departure gate. When passengers come forward to board the plane they simply step onto their respective seat numbers. This means they are automatically arranged into logical order before they head for the plane. As soon as the carpet is full (about 25 or so passengers) they move off, allowing the next lot of passengers to step onto their places, and so on. Five or six groups follow in rapid succession, comfortably filling the plane in around half the usual time.
The Flying Carpet system (patent pending) is the brainchild of Australian engineer, Rob Wallace, RoundPeg Innovations Pty Ltd, and looks set to vastly improve the boarding experience for millions of passengers, while saving airlines $millions.
