This is a monthly test of the Pike County Outdoor Warning System. It includes Voice, Alert, & Wail/Attack. Alert is used primarily for tornado warnings while Wail/Attack signals a chemical spill. I'm not quite sure why they would worry about a chemical spill. I guess they think the two nearby, large power generating plants might have something to do with it.

Me and Ian T. (TheWeatherGuys) conclude that this is probably a early, Whelen 2805 or late 2705. The siren uses the older tone generators that you may hear in early 4004s and late 3016s. Again, I have to thank my dad for recording this. He said he will be able to do it because the siren I tried recording yesterday failed.

  • Is the controller an ESC-864?

  • @Cobras7111 Yeah, I believe it is.

  • are they still mDE?.

  • @ricofojas2011 Yes and no. Whelen has made improvements to the 2700 (and 2800) series and is now called the 2900 series. 2700s are no longer made, but its successor is still made.

  • look on top of the siren theres something moving on it

  • @acahurricane1275 I think I see what you are talking about. I don't know what that is exactly. It appears as though something is loose.

  • You are correct...these are indeed WPS-2750's. I maintain these units. They are very reliable. Batteries and the occasional charger repair are the only things changed since 1991. Whelen still offers parts and support for these units.

  • @sirenfan97 I believe she is saying 12:18 as in the time the siren activated. It is not a date because Pike County, Indiana tests the first Friday of the month which was December 2ND this year (2011).

  • What was the last word she said over the siren? after both tests.

  • @southpark326 The humming noise is coming from the nearby construction vehicles. I believe they were pouring concrete nearby.
