The induced hypothermic protocol in use at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Hurst-Euless-Bedford is helping caregivers to lessen brain injury in patients who have experienced a cardiac event. Cold saline and cooling blankets are used to lower a patient's temperature during the initial phase of recovery from a heart attack or other event that causes a loss of blood flow to the brain.
