Discussion about Deafness Paradigm and Deafhood Paradigm. We need to make many new ideas to help us understand ourselves better in various ways. I strongly encourage people to make new idea about Deafhood via paradigms and paradigm shifts. Deafhood Foundation is an excellent organization that helps us to enhance our ways of life. We need to do more for the best interest of Deaf people!

  • What do you think about this idea? "Deafness" is dealing with the relationship a Deaf person has WITHIN THE HEARING WORLD, but "Deafhood" is dealing with the relationship a Deaf person has WITHIN THE DEAF WORLD. They are two separate paradigms because they are based on two separate relationships.

  • @stutterguy3 Deafness is the term to emphasize the importance of getting ear fixed rather than a real identity of the person. Deafhood is based on Deaf individual and group's experiences on earth as human being. Deafhood is not just within the Deaf World but also around the world. We want the world to accept who we are as part of the world and accept Deaf people's existence. As of now, the world does not accept Deaf and its importance. We want the world accept us for who we are, not change us.

  • @aslrights That is why I reject the idea of deafness which is based on ear only, not the whole person and his/her experience as human being. The term "D"eaf is very different from the term of "d"eaf. "D"eaf is recognized as a people with culture including language, history, philosophy, arts, etc. The "d"eaf is based on the condition of broken "hearing" such as medical and disability. Thanks for sharing the government's view on us as part of deafness, not Deafhood. sad

  • @Deafhoodismysavior Very interesting about "empowering of the most powerless". Thanks for sharing this with us! The existence of Deaf is very important to us and i want the world to recognize Deaf as a people. That would make the difference!
