Tony and Newman

About three times a week I take my 90 pound Sulcata tortoise for a walk around the surrounding neighborhoods.He has had his picture taken more times than you can count.He has also made the front page of the Daily News in Los Angeles. Newman is also responsible for many near car accidents as we stroll down major streets and cross busy intersections.

OMG.. I love Newman.. i have two sulcata babies myself. How did you train him to follow you? maybe one day i'll see him walking around I live around burbank, ca.

It took three years working with him at least an hour a day to train him.

How old is he cuz mine is about 5 years old and he only weighs about 10 lb

Newman is 9 years old and he is about 110 pounds. How much room they have as well what they are fed is very important to how big they grow. Newman eats Escarole, Endive, Zucchini, Cucumbers,Yellow Squash, Dandelion Greens,Rapini, Cabbage, Grasses,Bananas,apples, and watermelon on occaision. Too much sugary fruit is no good for them it will make them sick.

i love newman i have been thinking about getting a sulcate i have 4 aquatic turtles i live in MI and not sure how it would work in the winter i have a pond for my 4 but a 200gal tank they go in during winter so im still trying to work it out once i find a solution im going to get one they r amazing

I have a Redfoot tortoise who comes when I call him and follows me around. I've had him for 27 years, since he was about 4. He's a golden retriever trapped in a shell. He has an ID tag glued to the back of his shell just like Newman, in case he ever escapes from my back yard, which he as done several times. He walks about as fast as Newman. I didn't train him, that's just his personality.

Whats a good rule to follow so I dont over feed mine, I am trying really hard not to cause I dont want his shell to spike
