Before there was Röyksopp there was Drum Island. Band members were Ole J. Mjøs, Rune Lindbæk, and Torbjørn Brundtland. Svein makes a special appearance on one of the tracks from the album. This song developed into 'A Higher Place' on Röyksopp's debut album Melody A.M.

  • @mushroomsmokev2 What Jarre track?

  • royksopp svarer. com /26. html Here´s ur answers (in norwegian)

  • @BCE86 Basically, Rune Lindbæk had nothing to do with the creative process of this song, but he's trying to claim rights he doesn't have. The sounds used in both songs were sampled by Svein Berge and Gaute Barlindhaug when they were in another band with Torbjørn Brundtland, called "Aedena Cycle", before they even knew Rune Lindbæk.

as mushroomsmoke mentioned, drum island sampled jean michel jarre's woolloomooloo in the first place and if röyksopp guys were ever to pay royalties that must be paid to jarre. the songs sound quite alike but wasn't torbjorn a part of the duo drum island with rune which would means that they produced the track together?

we only heard the rune side of the story and we don't even know if drum island paid for royalties to jarre so the best thing would be to let the court decide.

You have to keep in mind samples and sampling are including in what's considered composition these days.

IMO i can hear the heavy influence of LIFT within Higher Place let alone using the exact same samples Drum Island used to begin with. To the extent that you can contend that Higher Place is similiar enough to be a remix of LIFT. Considering that some remixes are further removed from the original then these two purportedly "completely different" songs. Rune deserves his due.
