This is what I love about living in the East Village. We go to an ethnic restaurant where the clientele is usually old and foreign, and the atmosphere quiet enough to have a conversation. Then something like this happens.

  • this song is called "tri godini stana"

  • @nitkov -- Excellent! Thanks for the information.

We were going to go to that restaurant last night, but some big party was going on in the same back room (without the Serbian music this time, though).

I realized that it was almost exactly one year ago that we recorded this.

  • Excuse me please, this band that plays Balkan music and people that play, it is a traditional dance in Serbia, which is called "KOLO" (round) and is performed in that way ... If you really want to see come to Serbia, in a place called Gucha, where the festival trumpets! Every year in August is held, and believe me such entertainment you have never seen!

  • Thank you! It sounds great!

  • @svaroglo82, @childeric57 -- Fascinating, that the rhythm has carried us into a different language.

  • @childeric57 Molim, i drugi put. =)

  • @svaroglo82 XBAЛA !

  • @childeric57 This rhythm is called cocek ,it's from south of Serbia.

  • @Seeringipity -- Well, those people shuffling in a circle around the band seem to have gotten the hang of it.

Maybe you know the music of 3 Mustaphas 3? A brilliant and humorous ensemble from the 90's who played music of this type...

  • Maybe the idea is to require the foot tappers attention, if you played it enough you would begin to get acquainted with the musical style and be able to understand the timing involved.

For now though it does seem kind of chaotic and unusual. I have heard other Baltic music and some is most enchanting conjuring up images of Gypsies and the like.
