  • I see nothing wrong with it. Cowboys do it on the range (or whatever it's called) every day, and have been doing it for a long time. Lassoing calves and roping them for branding, "breaking" horses, etc. But because these guys are showing off Cowboy skills to people, it's called cruelty? Also the horses and bulls that fall, look like they fell over by their own bucking, NOT by the riders.

  • ..showing off Cowboy skills to people, it's called cruelty?"

Yes, the difference between causing discomfort out of claimed necessity and causing discomfort out of entertainment is one is clearly cruelty.

So yes Rodeo are cruel by their entertainment definition. When the animals don't perform wild enough and they tortured with electric prods to make the buck that is called evil.

I hope that clears up ethics and compassion for those missing this in their upbringing.

  • The horses in my rodeo arent proded with electric prods.. They are taken care of well

  • As can be seen from the videos electric prodding and worse happens in many rodeos. Silence is as bad as commiting the torture yourself.

  • these horses are clearly terrified and in pain , this is absolutely disgusting. Anyone who participates or watches this entertainment should be ashamed of themselves

  • hey i am not anyway involved in rodeos or the like but ok if you want to ban this then hey lets not stop there lets ban fishing ,how would you like it if someone stuck a big arse hook in your mouth and yank you out of your life , and hey what about people keeping birds in a small bird cage in there living room for entertainment ,dont these animals have the same rights and isnt that just for entertainment ,so where do you stop ,stop those who r guilty and leave the majority alone

  • When I was little, some family friends took me to this exact rodeo thinking I would enjoy it since I liked animals so much.. it made me cry and scarred me for life! I cant believe people are entertained by such blatant exploiting of animals.

  • People have a choice as to whether they participate in football codes, or anything. Horses don't. In all those sports you mention. They are all as bad as each other.

  • Horses do show you that it hurts: they RESPOND. Spurs are useless when the horse doesn't respond (a response is a sign that they FEEL the spurs, by the way.) Why the hell else would you wear a mildly sharp device on your heels?!?

Do you know what an "equine" is at all? Have you ever studied the subject?

  • Now...as for us not letting humans do this to each other by the way of entertainment...well, erm, has anyone been to a boxing match lately? Humans beating the crap out of each other in order to earn some money to feed their families? Rugby League matches with high tackles that go unpunished by way of entertainment? AFL games where we actually APPLAUD as one human jumps high enough to knee another human in the back of the head?

  • Electric prodding may have happened at some rodeos, but does that automatically mean it happens at all rodeos? No, of course it doesn't.

  • Not only is this a VERY VERY one-sided argument using the actions of the few to generalise the actions of the many, it also fails to look at other 'sports' where animals are used as 'entertainment'. What about horse-racing? Polo? Equestrian? The stark reality is those sports treat their animals worse than rodeo animals and no-one makes any sort of noise or fuss about them.

  • do u think that people should ignore this and let abusers "get on with it" without scrutiny? perhaps you could post the apra members who have been fined. finding that is scarcer than hen's teeth... the lies!!! wake up. the more people r exposed to cruelty, the less likely they r to see it as such. perhaps you are too desensitized to see the truth. humans r animals too. should humans be treated this way? if you this is ok, you would have to declare yourself a sociopath and a danger to society.
