The plot is not original and are based on the movie Evangeline. This was a project for French class in my school.
For those who don't know the story of Evangeline, here is a quick summary. The story itself is actually an epic poem. The couple, Evangeline and Gabriel, are engaged and about to marry, when a war breaks out between Great Britain and France. The British force the Acadians to participate and fight for them, but being French descendants, the Acadians refuse. As a result, their home of Grand Pre is burned and they are shipped and scattered to the United States. Evangeline and Gabriel are separated, and they both go on journeys searching for each other along the Mississippi. Finally, after many years, they are reunited during a plague. Unfortunately, Gabriel is already dying when he cries out her name. She sings his favourite song to him as he dies.
Confusing scenes:
The first scene was included for the sake of the movie having it. It is Baptiste, the childhood friend, who admits his love for Evangeline. Being engaged to Gabriel, she rejects him...and he cries like a sissy girl in our film :) Oh and, he walks funny in the beginning because of an irritating lag we were having.
Evangeline is NOT drowning herself when she cries after Gabriel has been separated from her. That was...er...a technical blooper :)
Who is Basil? He was Grand Pre's blacksmith and Gabriel's father. Evangeline comes across him while searching for Gabriel and they join together and follow the Mississippi River. This was also put in for the sake of the movie. He...drowns...at least, it is assumed, since in the actual movie he more like vanishes into the water.
I hope you enjoyed and didn't find it discursive. Like I said, if you haven't seen the movie, this won't make complete sense to you. Gotta watch the film ;D
