PQA (Petra's Questions & Answers): Episode 3, General RAID Questions.
A short episode where I briefly cover a couple of general RAID array questions. For those of you who already know a fair amount about RAID arrays and the specifics of how they function/distribute data, this episode certainly isn't for you and will only cause you to complain at me because of how I chose to simplify my explanations.
As a side note, yes, I shot this episode between bouts of working on our old Volvo 240.

@sporkenvader You are correct, RAID 4 is recoverable in a 1 drive failure event regardless of which drive fails--I think I may have goofed my explanation a bit in the video.

I'm certain that RAID-4 is as recoverable for a one drive failure as RAID-4. In the case of a three drive system. You will either lose Drive 1 - in which case Drive 2 + Parity drive can recover your data, Drive 2 - in which case Drive 1 + Parity can recover your data OR the parity drive in which case Drive 1 + Drive 2 still exist.
Poor write performance is the reason not to use RAID-5

@hybridchemistry Eh, I was in a hurry and had work to do... hence, the setting. A lot of the cutting in this video was necessary due to loud outdoor noises messing things up (cars going by, leaf blowers, etc.). I was actually filming between moments of working on the car as well.
That cabinet was a huge PITA to move down to So. Cal....

Less video chopping plz. Also, this doesn't seem very computer techy with you leaning on a car :| Is that the Volvo... of doom? Also, I recognize that cabinet behind you!
