Your right. Ford's ability to run wide open all afternoon is precisely why I became a Ford fan early on. In the 1960s, with few exceptions, General Motors didn't have a clue where victory lane was at most Nascar events.
Years ago G.M. ran an add drag racing a 406 Galaxie against a 409 Chevy and made sarcastic comments about Fords "Lively ones" when the 409 won. This at a time when Ford was dominating NASCAR and chevys could not compete without blowing up. Who cares what happens in 1320 feet when only the Fords could sustain 160+ MPH all afternoon. Typical "Total Performace" as I enjoy from my 2000 and 1994 Crown Vic P-71 Interceptors. Wise choice, dont ever sell it...
Very nice, I remember seeing one like it leave a driveway while my buddies and I were crossing the street just a few feet away from it. He must have seen our eyes bulging, so he put on a show for us, I will never forget how exciting it was to watch. We were not quite of driving age at the time and we were amazed, and kept talking about it all night and for years after. It is something I will never forget, especially after seeing the 406 flags on the fender.
I had one in high school, great puller. Baby 427-- high tin, nickel block, also cross-bolted like the nascar Ford motors of the era. A few years ago I passed on a chance to pick up a 406 tri-power set-up out of an old Galaxie convert for $900.00. Just shoot me.
swap the crank for a junk yard 390 crank and you will have a 390, add a bore job and you could have a 406 too, its the same block

In 1963 pontiac pulled out of nascar per G.M. edict and three Fords came in first to third. The Fords would have won anyway
as this was Fords 427 v/s Pontiacs 421

Wow, you don't see tri-power 406 Galaxies running around everyday. Looks like it even has the right manifolds. Too cool. It takes me back.
