Happy Hanukkah!
~Dr. C & Elwood

Lyrics:

Dr. C: The history of our people tells us why Hanukkah is celebrated by us Jews today,
why for eight days we are festive as we light the menorah and sing about a dreidle made from clay.

CHORUS: We thought one day it would burn, but eight days it did burn.
I learned this story from my dad and mom.
It was a miracle, a great miracle:
Nes Gadol Haya Sham

Delwood: When Antiochus, a Greek leader, became ruler of all Syria, he ordered that the Jews must worship Zeus.

Dragon: He vowed death to Jews who disobeyed, so Judah and the Maccabees fought back to overcome this bad abuse.

Zoro: Judah gathered up an army made from peaceful Jewish people, and waged war to drive the Syrians from our lands.

Sunny: After three fierce years of fighting, the Syrians left Judea, and the temple was again in Jewish hands.

CHORUS

Tyler: As Jewish legend tells it, we rekindled the Menorah with just one little jug of sacred oil.

Shawn: Just enough to burn for one day, but we knew we needed eight days to obtain more sacred oil which wasn't spoiled.

Mr. Splinter: But instead of burning one day, the oil lasted eight days...
Mrs Splinter: ...in answer to our Jewish fervent prayer.

Steven: So on Hanukkah we celebrate, with latkas, donuts, gelt and cake,
Elwood: that a great miracle happened there!

CHORUS

Dr. C: As you kindle your Menorah, spin your dreidle, eat your latkas, you'll know that we are not meshuggeneh.
These traditions all have meanings as we celebrate our freedom on this holiday that we call "Hanukkah."

CHOURUS

Elwood: Nes Gadol Haya Sham!
