This song is a response to Abby's "Summer Songs Challenge"...

Here are the lyrics (the way they were supposed to be, rather than the way they popped out of my mouth under pressure).

When I was barely a man, 'round 'bout twenty years
I came upon a pretty young thing. said "How 'bout raisin' me a family dear?"
She looked me up, she looked me down, and she said I guess you'll do
... but before I take that wedding vow, I got one request for you

She said, I been in school since I was five, seen what there is to see
I went to Bryn Mawr, I went to Cambridge, and I got my PhD
Spent my life in the classroom and I still feel like a fool
But I guess I'll raise yer family long as you don't send my kids to school

Homeschool summer she got no curriculum
Homeschool summer where curiosity's king and the learnin's fun
Homeschool summer kids explore without no fear
But the best thing 'bout the homeschool summer is it happens any time of year

I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed, but she seemed pretty bright to me
It wasn't long 'till we was wed, and she was raisin' me a family
Well I don't mind when I come home and she's reading Aesop's Fables
But I draw the line at the ontological argument at my dinner table

(Everyone knows that in light of the post-structuralist critique the argument is with epistemology, not ontology)

Homeschool summer well she threw out my TV
Homeschool summer checked out 97 books from the library
Homeschool summer yeah the learnin' happens hear
but the best thing 'bout the homeschool summer is it happens any time of year

Homeschool summer my kids are nerdfighters, all
Homeschool summer, not to mention the winter, the spring, and fall
Homeschool summer lookin' back we don't shed no tears
'cause the best thing 'bout the homeschool summer is it happens any time of year
the best thing 'bout the homeschool summer is it happens every time of year

  • We all love your song! Love the line about the books - they are everywhere! If you do an MP3 or have more hs songs, please let me know. I'll have to check out your others.

  • I'm glad you liked it :)

I don't have any other homeschooling songs, but I'm going to create a MP3 soon. I'll let you know whe I put it up.

  • I love your song... so true about the library books.... we bring a rolling suitcase! lol

  • My wife has a big canvas beach bag that she takes there and back at least once a week. :)

  • Great stuff. Bags of charm, humour and quality. Much better than the video to which you respond, imho. I'd say the issue is both epistemological and ontological, but I'm not getting into that again.

On the other hand; it's not about summer.

  • Glad you found it entertaining.

    1. I agree it's both ontology and epistemology... but that's not as funny.

    2. It depends on the liminality of the ontology of "summer" ;p
