This is a 1964 Studebaker Mobile Home Toter. The frame has adjustable lengths. The rear wheels will retract clear up to were the notches are cut out of the cab corners. This enabled the vehicle to meet certain states overall vehicle length restrictions. Once throught that state you could lengthen the frame out for a better ride in just a few minutes. Two different length drive shafts were required.

  • Called a "Whatoff Expando" made by Whatofff Manufacturing Co. in Ames, Iowa.

  • This one is not a Whatoff, it was a special order made for Studebaker by Elkhart Boiler Works in Elkhart, IN with 50 others to fill an order for Detroiter Moble Homes. May of had something to do with the falling out between Studebaker and Vern Whatoff. I got this information from Jim Huntoon, the dealer in Alma, MI that sold the 51 trucks new. This truck was shipped to Daggett, CA for $3506.00. I learned all this after posting the video. Thanks for your reply.

  • Is it hard to find these studebaker trucks and to find parts for them?

  • Wow! I can certainly see where that might have had something to do with the falling out with Whatoff!

I was in truck sales for many years and had quite a number of trailer-toter customers.
