@RoyFive -- A lot of Columbia's characters bore striking resemblances to ones from other studios. Flippy and Flop were esssentially Sylvester and Tweety. Another short, "Uncultured Vulture", has an Elmer Fudd erstatz meet a bird that looks remarkably like the Jimmy Durante vulture in MGM's "What's Buzzin', Buzzard?" This probably owed to director and writer migration between studios during animation's Golden Age.
