This video details the work of the 2008-2009 Vanderbilt Aerospace Club. Our project was to design, test, and fly a Rocket-Launched Reconnaissance UAV. We developed 3 airplanes, successfully better designed, lighter, and more sophisticated. We had a successful test launch on March 15th, where we deployed our Second Proof of Concept UAV from the rocket. Our Competition UAV was equipped with an onboard computer, 2 cameras, and had multiple data links to the ground for carrying down flight data. Unfortunately, our April 18th competition launch was a tragedy, and the rocket was destroyed before the UAV could be deployed.
Our project won 3rd place at the annual AIAA student conference. We won a "most innovative" award from our Mechanical Engineering department, and there were several other awards and commendations granted. It was one hell of a year.
