This rally promotes the use of ASL in Indiana schools. Gov. Mitch Daniels is anti-ASL and wants to promote oralism in deaf schools. Mitch Daniels also hired more hearing school board members for the deaf schools and their agenda is to remove ASL from the classrooms and promote oralism in it's place.
The deaf community is against that, instead our desire is to preserve ASL in the deaf schools. ASL promotes early literacy in young children before spoken speech. Watch this video as you will see and understand why we're taking this stand against the new school policy being shoved into our deaf schools in Indiana.
