Not a 60s musical "or something," but a 1943 ballet. While Copland did indeed not "invent" the tune, it was all but forgotten when he adapted it for Appalachian Spring. "Simple Gifts" is, thus, rightfully associated with his name.

Cool video and beautiful display. Ironic though that the fountains extravagance stands for a lot of of what Quakers were against.

Thanks for posting this! I remember seeing the fountains for the first time just prior to the Bellagio's opening in 1998. The song that was used when I witnessed it for the first time? Simple Gifts. It's almost a decade later and I'm still surprised--and *very* glad--that it's still used in the fountain lineup!
