The organ of Lincoln Cathedral, the last designed by Father Willis, played by Philip Bond. The instrument is a marvellous example of the maker's craft. The Chorale Prelude by Canadian composer, Healey Willan, is based on a melody by the German 16th century composer Melchior Vulpius.

  • Hello Phil,

Margy has now successfully photo'd the song for anyone who wants it. My email address is on the BBGS website under 'song'. It would be good to hear from many Old Boys who want it. Philip B.

  • I'll pencil it in. It could certainly be great fun to do. If you would like a copy of the music, I could put my email address on the BBGS website and you could download the song easily. How about that for an idea ? You'll need, of course, to find some lusty Barrovians to sing it. I would be happy to play it... Philip B

  • I promise that I will do it for you! I need to practise it up first...I don't know whether you want me to sing it, if the voice is up to it? The piano part doesn't always have the main tune, because the accompaniment fills in with much decoration. Anyhow, I will wait to hear from you on that one.Let me know if you'd like a copy. I would certainly like to see you all again, after thirty years or so. We were in Cumbria last week! Philip Bond

  • I would be delighted to video Philip playing 'Outward Bound' by Dr Thomas Wood for all you Old Barrovians. Thank you for such an inspired suggestion!

  • Great playing Bond! See you Soon

  • Yeah sounds good. Plenty of notice for sure.

  • Saturday 18th June, at Foxfield has been pencilled in by Jamie Hill and his band of merry men, maybe that could be a date Mr Watson??

  • Very kind! At last I feel vindicated - after producing a MIDI version from the sheet music some ten years ago I received many comments that the tune was "incomplete". Not an expert musician I could still see that the main tune was not carried by the piano throughout! I think Ciaran will have to gather a choir when a suitable opportunity arises. Perhaps the scurrilous BBGS website can put the call out! best wishes Phil

  • Perhaps next time he is in Cumbria we can organise a suitably male vocal ensemble... eh Ciaran?
