Audrey - The story of her rescue

The name Audrey means "noble strength."

It was a 12 hour round trip to save this girl. She came from an extremely under funded and over worked animal shelter that was doing the best they could, given the circumstances they were handed. It was a high kill and low adopt situation, and had I not seen an internet posting for her, she likely would have been euthanized or died in that place. My original intention was to get her better and adopt her out, but when the time came, I just couldn't bare to part with her.

The type of mange she had is called demodex mange - it is the non contagious type.

UPDATE: June 1st, 2007. It has now been one full year since Audrey's new life began. She has continued to thrive and come out of her "abused dog" shell, even around unfamiliar people. I still can't believe how far she has come, and still has so much more of her life to live. Sometimes I wonder if dogs can remember their pasts like people can, perhaps they can, but I hope she considers it a distant memory that only haunts her once in a blue moon. Her days now are filled with squirrel chasing, long naps on the couch, walks at the park, and wrestling with her sisters. Her favorite thing is to unwind at the end of a long day and get a neck massage (wish I could get them more often!). I have never had a dog that enjoyed something like that.

For anyone curious, she still thinks food is the best thing on the planet. I guess some things will never change. :)

UPDATE: November 5, 2007. Audrey has had a busy year. Lots of socialization training & getting spayed (the rescue world is full of "Audrey's!" Everyone needs one, but not directly from her!). She now has an updated video with new pictures. Please check my other videos to see it.

I can't figure out right now how to edit the original info about this video, but here we are closing in on August, 2011 and Audrey has been there with me through many life changes, including the purchase of a new house, some new adopted doggie friends, and the birth of our son. She is wonderful with him, though I doubt there was any doubt in anyones mind! :) Will try to make a new video in the coming months, this time with live video since technology has upgraded my camera though the years!

i miss my german shepherd. she was my bestfriend. i loved her dearly. she would always be waiting for me at the door after school. it was a terrible day when she died in my arms. she didnt want to leave us.
