The haters say we (the anime fans/lovers) are basement dwellers who need to get a girlfriend and get outside more. They need to open their minds and stop being so elitist. They also think that if we love anime, we are somehow being "anti-American." Now I like living in this country, and no offense to the U.S. but it looks like Japan is doing better in several things, like economy and education. I'm not trying to start a flame war over this, I'm just stating my opinion.

@fullmoonassasin It all depends
There are some Anime/Cartoons with Horrible Storylines
There are some with Good Storylines(Batman TAS,Ben 10(Original) comes to mind)
There are some which are just slapstick
Music is based on Opinion
Movement hands down American Cartoons

Japanese animation=JA
American animation=AA
Movement:AA>JA
Storyline :AA<JA
Genres :AA<JA
Musics :AA<JA (Not sure whether this is a reason or not)
Glitches :AA<JA (Means JA has more glitches compared to AA)

I know a few "anime" haters that will turn around and watch a show like spongebob or something. Well, in japan, foreign words are usually shortened so anime really is just "animation". To a person living in Japan an anime could include a show such as spongebob, the word anime is just something we use now to refer to Japanese animation . So all in all, people that hate anime are a bit hypocritical (only those that do this obviously). I guess they just don't like the style of "anime".
