this is our sax quartet at state solo and ensemble last year. kelsey played bari, i played tenor natalie played alto 2, and dylan played alto. all of us were freshman, except for kelsey, who was a senior. we got a one at districts and a one a state. we had lots of fun, and i think we only practiced about 3 times. oh yeah, dylan was sick at state...like, eww, gross, puking sick...lol. it was quite bad. and he lost his orginal, so he had to use the score...at about 50 seconds, you can see me switching his music for him, since it was six pages long...it was quite funny.

  • The piece was much too slow which really takes away from the "wow" factor of it. The tempo changed way too much and it could have used more dynamic contrast. And are those C*s I see? I use a caravan w/ Brancher ligature on my tenor and a 1980 C* that I picked up with my Buescher alto, stock ligature. I wouldn't suggest the new C* except for bari, the others are terrible.

  • thanks for the constructive critism! i'd like to hear you playing, since you make it sound like you know a lot about playing sax, but i didn't see a video on your site. why not?

  • @ajaksbackpac we actually got a 1 :D the judge loved us lol

  • @MrSteeler83 It was my second time preforming with a tenor sax 2 days ago as well, but we got superiors :D How'd you guys do?

  • ugh this is gonna put me to shame tomorrow. first time performing with the bari :/

  • We played this song earlier today for Solo & Ensemble and we got a superior :) I thought it was awesome seeing as I only got the music a couple of days ago.

It really is a fun piece!

We weren't a quartet, though. Four altos, a tenor, and a bari.

I love this song. Great job on it :)

  • @zachindie I have to say our ensemble Played it at a slightly less relaxed tempo than this but still slower than marked. the judges feedback was overwhelmingly positive though. I have to say though one of the things that gets me is the articulation of the alto intros. It should be light and bouncy and the contrast between the tempo changes are a necessity. Over all i agree that you very well deserved your 1. Bravo.

  • 1:50-2:04 is the best part hands down

  • the bari part is awesome

  • It feels really slow, but overall really good :D

  • Very nice job! Good job staying together with the rit. and holds at the end. My sax quartet is also doing this piece. Very good. I'd give a gold. 9.5/10

  • It sounded really good! I'm playing this piece in about a week for a solo and ensemble competition, and I'm the Bari player, and the only freshman in the group! But were taking it way faster, in cut time compared to yours. It sounds good at both speeds though.
