If you do not have a ringtone directory in ITunes, please open the iTunes Preferences and go to General and make sure Ringtones section is checked.

@musicman208 Syncing the ringtones will put them in the Sounds section in the iPhone Settings app.

mine goes straight to my music, not ringtones. any way to fix?

I followed your instructions, however, I do not have a ringtone folder in my library and it will not let me add one. The ringtones have been created and I can see them. I even tried to email them but I don't know where to email them in order to show up in the sounds section of my phone. I'm stuck.
