  • biggest ethernet cable ever

  • your last name is Dutch, isn't it?

  • Per BenPark089's earlier comment, is there a way to get this to work with Mac's TimeMachine? I got a dockstar, it supports my external drive in all other ways, but I can not get TimeMachine to see it. Thanks for any ideas!

  • Does the dockstar work with linux? Also I share all my media on samba for my xbox, will this share to a samba network? Will this work with time machine? (repeat question I know)

  • Does it work with TimeMachine?

  • hey, do you need to format any drives you attach?

also, can you connect 3 usb drives at once via USB, as well as docking a freeagent drive?

    thanks Jon

  • Jon,

I've read several in dept reviews and for a simple NAS device, this really performs quite well, about 23 MB/sec read/write speed when mapped as a network drive, so far I'm impress!

    -Thanks

  • Hi Jon,

Thanks for the answers to my questions, I have a few more:

    1. Do newly attached drives require formatting or can drives with existing data be attached?

    2. Other than sharing files, what other features can this product perform? eg. Print server, P2P Torrent support, UPnP support, FTP support, Itune Server?

    3. How many watts does this product use?

    4. How many users can access the network shares simultaneously?

    Thanks Jon!

  • mast3rw3b,

Thanks for the questions. Let me see what I can answer:

    1) The average speeds depend on your network configurations. I have GigE at home, and it is as fast if not faster then USB.

    2) DockStar will work with pretty much all formats, including NTFS, FAT, HFS and EXT.

    3) I have used drives as large as 2TB without problem. No limitations that I know of.

Let me know if I can be of more help.

    Jon

  • Hi Jon,

I have been looking for a USB NAS adapter and this is something that interests me. I was on the Seagate website but reluctant to find details specs. I have a few questions Im hoping you can answer for me:

1.What are the average read/write bandwidth/speeds within the same network of the shares in a Windows XP environment? (Using a USB interfaced Seagate 7200rmp drive)

2.What file system does the drive(s) need to be in, eg. Fat32, NTFS?

    3.Any drive size limitations?
