Taken from 'Angel Maintenance', episode 19 of the 4th season of The West Wing.

'Tensions mount as a possible mechanical problem prevents Air Force One's landing. Bartlet seizes the day despite the crisis, working from his airborne office on legislative issues'.

In this short clip, CJ and Will try to distract the press pool onboard from seeing the F16 fighter jet check the landing gear on the plan!

  • As a former Air Force cargo aircraft maintainer, I have trouble believing that the most advanced plane in the world, maintained by the most experienced, most professional mechanics in the world, with multiple redundancies built in for just about everything would have sa landing gear problem like this in the first place.

  • "Look at me look AT MY FACE!"

    I love this show!

  • @acer3573 that always cough my mind when he shows his um...lack of knowledge" :)

  • @ahrimanes To be fair, he was AF JAG, not a pilot...

  • @cardiac19 Yes, that always bugged me about this episode, especially since Will is an officer in the Air Force Reserve.

  • @MrSatireTube Is that chap the pilot then? I haven't seen the whole episode, so I'm probably not in a great position. I was more commenting on the vagueness of the answers, rather than the friendliness. I just feel that "pretty soon" or "pretty low" are poor answers. I mean "Around 1,000 feet" is still vague, but it's alot better than the answer he /did/ give.

I dunno. I'm probably just being picky.

  • @hansellius The Colonel on AF1 and POTUS have a close relationship, it has been widely reported to the fact that when POTUS leaves office, so does the pilot. All the writers have done is reflect that. As for this, Bartlett had said on many ocasions that he does not care for overly technical military discussions. Give him the answers simply and he will make a call when it needs to be made.
