http://www.acidrefluxdiseasetreatment.com/ As we grow older, the muscular valve of the Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LEC) weakens. This means that the LES is usually less efficient in preventing stomach content leakages into the esophageal in older people. When such is the case, natural acid reflux occurs. The chronic condition also occurs if a person has a protrusion of the upper stomach to the thoracic area (hiatus hernia). Most of us know natural acid reflux simply as heart burn. Medically referred to as reflux esophagitis, acid reflux affects 10 percent of the entire population in the United States on a daily basis.

  • What about GERD caused by hernias? I'm 19 years old, 5'6, 135 lbs (not overweight at all), so if I do have low acidity, it's not because I'm some old fart. I do heavy lifting at work once in a while and I used to workout (I probably did lift with improper form) which may have caused a hernia? But I already wasted a lot of money seeing a doctor for blood counts, allergy tests, etc which all came back negative. I'm afraid that if I went to see if I had a hernia they would miss it.

  • My doctor has had me on Nexium for a month and I honestly feel worse than when I began ! I need help, I can't be one of those ppl on PPI's for ages, I have a compromised immune system on top of it all so these PPI's can't be helping.

It's been 4 weeks, if I go off before getting a stomach acid test and try HCL with digestives am I risking anything ? Thanks so much for any advice

  • This was very informative, been suffering from this for a few years, probably too much alcohol has aggravated it over the years, but will try apple cider vinegar for a few months. A prescription of Rinitidine helped vastly.
