5 month old Blackberry 8310 with what I now know to be the NOTORIOUS problem with the USB charging port. I phone AT&T customer support and the droid asks me 2 dozen stupid questions. LAST question is: "does the charging plug wiggle?" - I answer: "yes, it wiggles a very tiny bit" - then droid tells me my warranty is voided due to physical damage.

WTF ?????

I have 2 brand new 8310 units here with exactly the same amount of "slop" in the plug - so where the hell do they come up with "physical damage - warranty voided" ???

  • I don't care at all about the wiggle - however if you took the time to read my comments you would have learned that the AT&T rep said my warranty was VOID because of the wiggle. AT&T, to their credit, did end up sending me a replacement unit that works just fine.

  • RIMM makes blackberrys. Not AT&T. Your title should say RIMM Sucks.... People always blame their carrier when it is usually their own fault, or the fault of the phone.

  • Try to follow along....

    AT&T _sells_ the Blackberry and handles the warranty for the ones they sell. Yes, it IS a bad design from RIMM - however - AT&T was the one refusing to stand behind the product they sold.

    The charging stand is the only way to avoid the inherent weakness of the USB charging connector.

  • Yup, that must be the problem. I am stupid :-)

    Between work and my personal accounts, I have 9 Blackberry Curves and they all have EXACTLY the same amount of wiggle in the connector from the day they were new.

  • Wait... if the Blackberry is the one that has the problem, why does AT&T suck? Blackberry is manufactured by RIM.

  • Wait? My issue is with how AT&T handled the problem.

  • dude if a little bit of wiggle in your phones charger is the bigest problem in your life you need a better life. what the hells the big deal about that tiny tiny wiggle

  • @jerry4260 actually even verizon and t- mobile are not going to cover that either its RIM fault for using that charge/usb port. and RIM has a warrenty program that would cover that, so why would AT&T cover something that RIM already has under warrenty- I must agree you are blaming the wrong people they might steal your money otherways but this isnt oned of them :/

  • Legally ATT is just as liable for a product defect of a product they sell as the manufacturer of said product. At least in the united states.

  • AT&T has horrible 3g coverage, Verizon has a faster 3G coverage and 5x more coverage than AT&T's spotty map. Some of my friends have AT&T as their cell phone carrier, and they said their coverage sucks, which is why I have Verizon, and it's rumored that the iPhone 4 & iTablet will be added to Verizon's network.
