Abstract
Motor learning requires large amounts of practice and this is particularly true after brain damage. It is possible that preparing the brain to learn, via direct excitatory stimulation, might facilitate the acquisition of new motor skills and speed recovery after brain damage. Dr. Boyds lab is actively exploring whether transcranial magnetic stimulation might prepare the brain to learn and when paired with rehabilitation,
speed recovery of function after stroke. She will discuss her findings as well as present some of the pitfalls of this approach.
