Christmas Ornament Digital Display

With the world of photography firmly in the digital age, and with small color displays becoming more and more affordable, digital picture frames are now becoming a household item. Unfortunately most of these frames either provide a high quality image at the cost of increased weight, or are portable but provide a small, typically 1", viewing area and a low quality image. We aim to combine the portability of the low quality digital picture frames with the display quality of the larger digital picture frames available on the market. The frame will be in the form of a Christmas Ornament in order to modernize our customer's family tradition of having a family photo decorate his Christmas tree.

In designing this prototype, we have chosen a Single Board Computer with a Linux OS to run slide show software written in C as the focal point of our device. The device will work in conjunction with a Picture Modification Software on the user's home computer, written in C#, which will allow the user to select which pictures to send to the device, and will format the pictures appropriately before they are sent to the ornament. The ornament will have a button interface for the user to control the slide show, and the device will be powered via a rechargeable battery.
