I'm not reading anything into what was going on in Aretha's mind at the time. It is extremely unusual for performers in a duet not to look at each other.

Hey, stupid people who believe you're mind readers. Please notice that there is an audience in front of Aretha and she is singing to them. Please also note that in television they have things called directors who instruct performers how they want things to be done. Next time you watch Ray Charles sing, note that he plays the piano and looks out to the audience (even though he's blind--his voice carries out to the crowd) and doesn't need some b.s. made up backstory to have a reason for it.

I think Tom may have done something off camera to rub Ms. Franklin the wrong way. She really likes good behavior and most likely wouldn't appreciate a male being familiar or flip. She likes RESPECT--2 give it and receive it. Unfortunately many white males are flip and familiar with black women and the women don't like/appreciate it. I have heard this over and over again. I've seen Ms. Franklin more attentive with singers like Lou Rawls and Andy Williams. They're gentlemen, Tom seems kinda wild

@Kamileishon: I think you are reading too much into things. How could you possibly know that is what was on Aretha's mind? I was always told that if you don't know what you are talking about it would best to just be quiet. Stop spreading misiformation about other ppl.....you wouldn't like it if someone did that to you.

The thing is that Tom is always trying to charm (maybe the panties off) the women he is singing duets with (and any women for that matter, at the time). And I think Aretha didnt feel like being put under his spell. You can see her squirm. I would probably feel the same... He is one sexy beast!

Very unusual the way Aretha never looks at Tom. It looks as if she is tuning him out completely.
