This clip is the unedited version of the clip I submitted earlier.

The Paulding Light also known as "The Dog Meadow Lights" have been a mystery in Upper Michigan for over 40 years. To this day you can see them on almost any night! Personally I first witnessed this strange light in february of 1999, and to my surprise the ghost light moved towards us floating in mid air and it looks exactly as if someone was carrying a lantern. As it started to get closer to us it would vanish and start all over again each time moving towards us faster and FASTER! There are some haunting legends for this phenomenon for example, some say one night around forty years ago, a railroad switchman while holding his lantern was crushed to death between two cars while trying to signal the engineer. Others say that an engineer was murdered along the old railroad grade that runs parallel to the road the light appears. Another story tells about a man out late one night carrying a lantern looking for his lost little boy in the
woods. Supposedly, the man was hit by a train and his ghost continues to search for his son! Some people even have claimed to have seen the "GRIM REEPER" floating across the road near the light!! Skeptics say it is nothing more then car lights in the distance or glacier gas. But no matter what it is, you are
still fascinated and spooked while viewing this bizzare light as it starts walking towards you!! I ended up using these clips in my movie by the same name.

Look for the Youtube vid "unraveling The Paulding light mystery" ... and watch how a REAL investigation (done by decent investigators from Michigan Tech, not actors) proved it is car lights.

The cars that make the light don't stop (or I should say don't have to stop). They are just moving down the road. The road is coming at you down a hill, so you see them for awhile, not just a flash as they drive past.

The light is not continual the whole night. It comes and goes, but is busier earlier in the evening and later in the morning.

  • @burninbiomass so does that means there would be cars stopping there every night? wow that must have been a popular make out place

  • @burninbiomass then how on earth does it happens all night?

  • their is no road by their my grandpa and i got out of the car and walked and their was no road.. theirs nothing i think it is a mystary

You can see on a map where US 45 lines up. Its 5 to 7 miles, but yes, they can be that bright. It seems brighter because your in the woods in the UP, its really dark, and your eyes adjust (and the inversion layer that MTU talks about).

Take a telescope next time (a good one) and it will be as simple as headlights. Go before dark, so you can see the roads location in the distance.

Glad to hear you are curious, that's always a good thing!

  • @burninbiomass the line of sight doesnt add up to me. but ive never looked down a teliscope at it either. plus 4.5 miles is a long way for lights to show that bright. I also believe in ghost so I'm not being a skeptic. But my curiosity is peaked by this. All im saying is the answer doesnt seem as simple as headlights.

  • @zacmyers23

There really isn't any more to it. MTU shows you the cars. I've been there myself and I've seen the cars. Plus, I do believe in ghosts and the supernatural, so I'm not a skeptic (not to mention, if anyone says they don't know what it is but it isn't cars, they are actually the skeptics).

  • @burninbiomass Just dont buy it. Doesnt mean I think that its a ghost. Just dont think its headlights and tail lights. Atleast not only headlights and tail lights. there is more to it.
