Did Jesus Christ really rise from the dead?

Is there evidence that Jesus rose from the dead?

"Christianity and Islam"

A truly remarkable series of four debates held at four Canadian universities on four different questions.

Day 1: Did Jesus of Nazareth Physically Rise From the Dead?

Representing the Muslim perspective was Shabir Ally: Shabir Ally has earned a B.A. in Religious Studies from Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, with a specialization in Biblical Literature, and an M.A. in Religious Studies from the University of Toronto with a specialization in Quranic Exegesis.

He is now in his third year of Ph.D studies in Quranic Exegesis at the University of Toronto.

He is the president of the Islamic Information & Dawah Centre International in Toronto where he functions as Imam.

He travels internationally to represent Islam in public lectures and interfaith dialogues.

He explains Islam on a weekly television program called "Let the Quran Speak.

Representing the Christian side was Dr. William Lane Craig: Dr. William is Research Professor of Philosophy at Talbot School of Theology in La Mirada, California.

He lives in Atlanta, Georgia, with his wife Jan and their two teenage children Charity and John.

At the age of sixteen as a junior in high school, he first heard the message of the Christian gospel and yielded his life to Christ.

Dr. Craig pursued his undergraduate studies at Wheaton College (B.A. 1971) and graduate studies at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (M.A. 1974; M.A. 1975), the University of Birmingham (England) (Ph.D. 1977), and the University of Munich (Germany) (D.Theol. 1984).

  • Alley is wrong on the dating of Acts. Paul died in 65 A.D. Yet Acts reports Paul as still living. It must have been written before 65 A.D. Also, the temple was still standing in Acts. It was destroyed in 70 A.D.

  • If there is any book, movie, idea, forum, speech, or religion that either takes Jesus off of the cross or keeps his bones in a grave in Jerusalem is Satanic.

The fact is - that he was crucified and rose from the dead.

God does not judge on a curve - if there was no sacrifice, there is no salvation for us.

  • Genesis 2:7: "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul"

this explains death, because the opposite of life is death!

i think u dont understand what the soul is!

every living person can breath! Dead people cant!

so the soul is simply your breath!

as you said, death is simply the soul leaving the body!

without breath their is no soul!!

if u die, your breathe leaves the body, which is your sou!!l

  • Acts was written before 65 AD since it is a biography of Paul and makes no mention of his death in the Neronian persecutions around 65 AD. That puts Luke even earlier since Luke said it was his former worker.

  • Sorry if I am reading your comment wrong, but I think you are saying Jesus did not come back to life? If you are saying he did, I am just agreeing with you I guess.

But anyway, I think a lot of people don't know what death is. Death is simply the soul leaving the body, and that flips the off switch for the body. Thats really it. I mean, if someones heart stops, and starts again, their soul did not leave. I am pretty sure God just put Jesus's soul back in his human body. And then he went back.

  • mathew 27:35, mark 15:24, luke 24:7, john 19:16 Acrs 2:7, mathew 27:26, Mathew 27 :38,, mark 15:25,John 19:18

    JESUS WAS CRUCIFIED!

  • And why doesn't Shabir Ally mention the gospel of John? You can't deny something that's written by an eyewitness and disciple of Jesus.

  • The problem in this discussion is that Shabir Ally is copying facts from scholars which are actually highly doubtable and not supported by the greater fraction of Biblical scholars. In conversations I had with muslims this always happened. Muslims are just not able to do proper exegesis and hermeneutics on the Bible. Also christians can't do proper exegesis and hermeneutics on the Qur'an. When explaining religion we should stick to our own book.

  • 1 Proud,

I saw some of my comments and I am sorry if I came across as arrogant, your humility showed me how stupid I was acting. Have a great day and :-) right back at ya!

  • No other way to be.......

  • 1 Proud,
