Brano portato al successo negli anni 70 da Roberta Flack.
L'interprete pianista Roberta Flack nasce a Ashville, USA il 10 febbraio 1939. Ottiene una borsa di studio e si laurea ad Harvard. Per caso viene scoperta mentre si esibisce in un jazz club e le viene proposto un contratto con la Atlantic Records. Nel 1972 la Flack è l'artefice del più grosso successo dell'anno, "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face". Nei due anni successivi scala il vertice delle classifiche con diversi duetti insieme al suo collega di Harvard, Donny Hathaway. "Set the Night to Music" è un altro duetto con Maxi Priest, che pure scala la Top Ten nel 1991.

The song entered the pop mainstream when it was released by Roberta Flack, in 1972. The Flack version was much slower than the original: an early solo recording by Seeger, for example, clocked in at two and a half minutes long, whereas Flack's is more than twice that length. It was subsequently covered by numerous other artists.
