Disconnect to Reconnect

Did you know that over 50% of technology addicts also suffer from other addictions? Today, so many people are dependant and addicted to technology, causing other addictive symptoms, such as narcotics.

In our film, Disconnect to Reconnect, we show a person watching the PSA on television. After she has watched the PSA, she makes a decision about her own life regarding what she has just seen. The film portrays technology addiction with a teenager who uses excessive amounts of electronic gadgets. Since she is so immersed into her electronics, she is totally oblivious of her surroundings, until she enters a park and a soccer ball rolls to her feet. The soccer ball is used to represent a social, active, and healthy lifestyle. The addicted teenager then contemplates over her two options: to ignore the ball and keep her mind focused on her electronics, or to experience the social and healthy lifestyle that is being offered to her.

We used different principles of artistic design such as birds-eye view, worms-eye view, and close-up shots. The birds-eye view and worms-eye view are used when the addicted teenager is contemplating about her two options when she is in the park. Close-up shots are used in the beginning and at the end to clearly show the electronic devices being used.

The film boasts a unique topic which shows concern in the use of technology in modern day. The choice of music used, the statistics and facts that are communicated, the symbols it uses, and the message it brings all raise awareness to this important issue of technology addiction.
