Windows is configuring updates (Vista issue)

I don't have a copy of vista on disk. My laptop did not come with one. I had this issue for quite a while. I don't force reboot though my laptop did cut off on it's on twice because of overheating and twice because of low battery (did not completely cut off though). I don't know what it may be. I have had issues with the mic and I'll post a short video soon of my issue with Windows Media Center. And before someone says it, I've never owned a Mac and am not interested in doing so. I am not a fangirl just comfortable with what I'm used to.

I just got tired of it and reinstalled the OS. I didn't have a disk but like I said in the video it was an incompatibility issue. There was a back up of the OS on the hardrive so I just used that. I never could figure out exactly WHAT caused it to freak out but I really believe it had something to do with vista service pack 2. I could NOT get it to install even with the stand alone. Sorry I couldn't help. That laptop and another was stolen this past dec. and I have a new one since then.

Continuing comment.  A year ago I said that it was fixed. Reinstalling the OS was a temp fix. Maybe if you reinstall the OS and disable automatic Microsoft updates it'll help?
