This Onan generator started right up after cranking it over with a 12-volt battery. I got it plus a Homelite generator today at an estate sale.

  • my dad says that onan might have come off a towtruck? i bet youll be loving that for starting your busses in the field!

  • Yes that sounds like a logical application...It definitely should have the power to get a vehicle with a dead battery started quickly.

  • how much amps dos the onan put out that is a big motor for a 12 voilt gen set that would be nice for a all 12 v. camper or you could feed a inverter to make 110 v. ac. I have a homolite like that one that was from a fire truck It is a 2 cycle The plate should say 16 to 1 or something like that I will try to video it for you.

  • Thanks for your video of the Homelite. I found out that my Homelite is actually a 24-volt DC output. The Onan can put out I believe 133 amps at 12 volt DC.

  • i think that regulator needs some work just by how it acted until you cranked it open.

  • Yes you may be right...i'll have to clean all the contacts.

  • Onan is owned by Cummins Engine Company now, and has been for some time. People have used Onan engines to power homebuilt aircraft. Great engine design, and should be a wonderful power source for you. These are also found on portable welders. I have seen them used inside a factory.

  • nice finds id like to get an onan engine

  • the choke on my motorhome onan 6600 is a little off and wil fowl the plug

  • too bad its not 120v but then again 133 amps of 12v should be plenty to feed yer hacked up UPS inverters

    nice find!

  • it also looks like the meter face has detereorated/shrunk over time.

  • You may be right...several years ago I used a 24-volt inverter from a UPS, powering it off 2 12-volt batteries in series...the inverter finally quit working. I'll have to check out what types are available that are designed for continuous use.

  • Wow it even has an electric starter, that engine purrs like a kitten and the generator even works.. What a buy that was for only 12.50.
