  • Go Mr. President!

At last the USA has joined every other industrialised country in the world in having publicly funded health insurance. President Obama has achieved what no other president has been able to, after fighting through a barrage of vitriol, hate and threats of violence not seen since the 1960s.

Much of the world admires President Obama and with the changes he is making both at home and overseas we will continue to respect and admire the goodness in the USA

  • "47 million can't afford insurance"? Wrong. That's a number tossed out by Democrats. Google it, and you'll find many analyses that show what a fraud that number is. I don't think Democrats even mention it anymore, because it's been so debunked.

And likewise, a video could be made of a couple that lost their home because they couldn't afford the payments. Or a car. Or utilities. Why don't you care about those things, too? And want us to collectively pay for them?

  • How sad. Would you rather lose your home, car, utilities or your health? How much would you enjoy these things if you are crippled and then doubly disadvantaged by being bankrupted by health care bills.

So what if it is 49 million, 39 million, 9 million or 900 in the US without insurance, all are too many.

In Australia we have universal health coverage and enjoy a first rate health system. We are not bankrupt.

How sad that there are such uncaring people in the world's richest country

  • We aren't uncaring, we just realize the consequences.

Would it bankrupt us? No. Will it mean we no longer will be the world leader in developing new drugs, medical devices and methods? Yes, and Democrats know it. And will it mean we'll no longer be able to afford the best military in the world? Yes. And will it change American culture? Yes.

And how would you like to be a healthy person with no home or car? What kind of life would that be?

It's all about money, not health.

  • I would rather be healthy with no home/car than unhealthy with home and car who will eventually have no home/car as the health system bankrupts me.

My US resident sister has MS, cannot work, has a $2 million cap is her health insurance, when this finishes then what? Sell house and car to pay bills

Unfortunately it is all about money, I pay 3.5% on my tax, enjoy a cradle to grave health system. Anything I need from a toenail removal to a heart transplant, same for those on welfare

  • FYI, the cost of healthcare in the US has been rising IN TANDEM with increasing government intervention in the health sector. 65% is already under gov. control, only a 35% difference from the Australian system. Problem=too much gov, NOT TOO LITTLE!!

Health premiums skyrocketed as soon as the Obamanation signed the health care reform act.

WE DON'T HAVE TO WAIT FOR HOURS AND HOURS IN THE ER!!! NOR FOR CRITICAL OPERATIONS/SURGERIES!!

The couple in this vid should have bought a full policy.

  • What? Did I miss something? America didn't get universal public funded health care. It got a bill making it the law to purchase health insurance, not a single payer health system.

  • True some choose to go without it b/c 300.00 is high. But this vid does have some untruth, people on medicare dont pay much.

  • @DonTruman We are not uncaring... just greedy neocons investing in pharma and biotech companies that bilk Medicare and private insurers alike. Gee, you think there might be a system that compromises by publicly funding a system that rations care while allowing for a private system too? Tax expenditures for medical expenses only help the wealthy and penalize those too sick to work and get insurance.

  • Well, I agree with you, Rupeniqase.

In fact, I wish we had this system in the US.

I think you accidentally replied to me instead of Truman. Rest assured he's in the minority. Actually, most people are in between. They're kept in disarray by corporate propaganda and people like Truman. Honestly, all of these countries have superior systems. Even Taiwan! However, per my understanding, the Aussie system seems great!

  • Two more points (and 100's more available):

    1) If you'd rather be healthy and with no home/car, then that's easy to accomplish, because home and car cost a LOT more than the best health insurance in America today.

    2) So your sister is living in America, can't work, isn't married (?), and has no family or friends to move in with. And if she's that bad off, what's she doing with a car? And if she has no income, she'll lose home (and car?) anyway. Health insur or not, that's a bad situation.
