Many pro-lifers or pronatalists oppose devising some arbitrary pop "cap," perhaps partly for concern that we may actually reach it. We don't expect pregnant women to wear confining clothes to hide their pregnancy, nor then, should we expect a "pregnant" planet to hide its "pregnancy." Let it bulge with human life proudly, announcing whatever "birth" to come, to all the world.

how is carl sagan involved? Also, I find this as simple natural selection. The dummies cut down all their trees, and now there idiot genes/poor culture will be weeded out of the life cycle. Every animal, plant, fungi and microbe on this planet are set to their enviroments carrying capacity. Carrying capacities are capable of growing and expanding from the need of the inhabitant. An example of this in the natural world is the beaver. They manipulate the inviroment to better suit there needs.

Of course the world can hold 100 billion people, but probably there would have to be more places with lots of people, and fewer places far from lots of people. Small price to pay for so many people to enjoy being alive.

Adding up all the long list of compelling reasons why people have as many children as they do, and humanity's powerful reproductive urges, I get a global goal and natural desire humans generally share, to enlarge the entire human race, for the greater good of the many.
