In this video I show how to make your own Ethernet cable, using a RJ-45 connector. You want UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) ethernet cable of at least Category 5 (Cat 5). Cat 5 is required for basic 10/100 functionality, you will want Cat 5e for gigabit (1000BaseT) operation. Its much cheaper to buy cable in spools and just simply add the ends yourself. Its not hard to do once you've done it a couple of times. If you go to any electronics store they charge an outrageous price for cable you can make for a third of the price, also you can make it exactly the length you need
